Sometimes when you send an email in Outlook then the sent items may remain in your Outbox folder in Outlook. As the emails do not leave the Outbox, you do not receive any responses against the mails, meeting requests, or task requests. Now you do not receive a warning also saying that the items have not left your Outbox until you actually quit Outlook. When you quit Outlook, you may see the following message:
There are still e-mail messages in your Outbox. Would you like to exit anyway

Steps to send emails from my Outbox

This happens if you are working offline and one of the following situations is true:

  1. You addressed the item to someone in your local Personal Address Book.
  2. You are using a Microsoft Exchange Service and addressed the email to someone in your synchronized Global Address List or your synchronized Outlook Address Book Contacts.
  3. You are using SendMail or Simple MAPI to send an email.

When you work offline, Outlook cannot send the item because it does not have access to the e-mail server. Now the addressee is available in one of your local address lists, so, Outlook validates the address but it does not provide an indication that the item remains unsent until you quit Outlook.

When you make a connection to your email server next by going online or by making a remote email connection then Outlook sends the email.

Now you can follow below steps to make a remote e-mail connection while you are working offline:

  1. For Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003 on the Tools menu, click Send/Receive. Then click Work with Headers, and then click Download Headers.
  2. For Outlook 2007 on the Tools menu, click Send/Receive then click Download Headers in This Folder.
  3. And in Outlook 2010 click the Send/Receive tab on the Ribbon. and then click Send/Receive All Folders.
